Our Community and Beyond
Ervin R. Stutzman will be speaking about his new book,Emma: a Widow among the Amishin a presentation called ``Serendipity, Sweat, and the Sweet Taste of Telling a Family Story.'' The book that tells the story of Ervin's Amish-Mennonite mother, widowed at a young age with six children, one of them disabled. Ervin is a writer, speaker and a theological educator at Eastern Mennonite University. The Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society sponsors this program. The free event takes place at the Metzler Mennonite Church at 7 pm.Directions to Metzler Mennonite Church:Take Oregon Pike/Rt. 272 six miles north of Lancaster through the intersection with Rt. 772 at Schaum's Corner. Continue 0.3 miles and take the first right turn onto North Church Street. Go 0.1 mile (cross under Rt. 222 bypass) and take the first left turn onto West Metzler Road. Continue on Metzler Road for 0.9 miles and take the first left turn to stay on West Metzler Road for an additional 0.8 miles. Church is located at 515 West Metzler Road, just south of Akron. Support Relief and Recovery Work:Mennonite Central Committee is appealing for at least $200,000 to support relief and recovery work in Myanmar, also known as Burma. Funds will go to several organizations already in the country. Contributions should be designated "Myanmar (Burma) relief and recovery" and may be made online at mcc.org/donate or by sending to MCC 21 South 12thStreet, PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501. Summer Adventure Day Camp at Landis Homes June, July and August. Located in Manheim Township
This camp focuses on a combination of fun and exciting activities, as well as interaction between the campers and residents of Landis Homes. By taking an innovative project approach, campers select learning topics of their choice, with an emphasis on science, literacy, art and above all, fun! Several field trips throughout the summer include: Dutch Apple Theater, bowling, roller skating, swimming and much more. We look forward to a fun and mutually beneficial opportunity for all.
